Son of Nehemiah Randall (1793-1850) and Eunice Dodge (b. 1802). He married Cynthia Jane Gleason on 18 June 1853 in Union, Broome County, New York.


William was a veteran of the Civil War. He enlisted 23 Jan 1864 as a private, Company K, 161st New York Volunteer Infantry; suffered a gunshot wound of his left hand 1 Apr 1865 near Mobile, Alabama, losing his left ring finger; discharged at White Hall Hospital near Bristol, Pennsylvania 21 Jun 1865.

Obituary: "William H. Randall died at his home, 1046 Walnut St, last night, September 20, 1898 at 11 o'clock. He was a former resident of Waverly, NY, but moved to Elmira about two years ago and has resided here since. Deceased was nearly seventy-two years of age and a veteran of the Civil War, having been a member of Company K, 161st Regiment NY Volunteers. He is survived by his wife and six children, three sons and three daughters. The funeral will be held at his late residence on Friday, September 23rd at 3pm and the interment will be in Woodlawn."
