Edwin C. Baldwin, a native of New Albany and nationally known for his YMCA work, died Wednesday in his Los Angeles home. Edward A. Newhouse, New Albany, a brother-in-law, received the news Friday. Baldwin, 86, began his career as clerk in the New Albany YMCA. He served as YMCA secretary in many of the larger cities of the country, including New York. He retired several years ago. He was a member of a New Albany pioneer family, and of a Presbyterian church in Los Angeles. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Florence Newhouse Baldwin; a son, [Prof.] Robert E. Baldwin, Morgantown, W.Va.; two brothers, Dr. John H. Baldwin, Jeffersonville, and James S. Baldwin, Dearborn, Ill.; and a sister, Mrs. Susan Stilz, Lexington, Ky. - New Albany Tribune 06 Feb 1955
