C. Dale Pond, 78, of Trinity, Texas, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Conroe Regional Hospital in Conroe, Texas.
He was born on Nov. 8, 1926, in Muenster, Texas, to James W. and Eula M. Pond.
He served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman in the Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Air Corps on July 13, 1946. He retired from Occidental Petroleum Corp. and Cities Service Oil Company after 40 years of service. He was active with the Boys Scouts of America and Lions Club. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Family members said he was fond of taking his sons and scout troop fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Pond; his parents; three brothers, Billy, R.H. and Jerry; and two sisters, Jewell and Shirley.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores Gray Pond of Trinity; a son, Robert D. Pond (and wife, Mary) of Murdock, Kan.; a daughter, Carol Kirkland (Don) of Houston; a granddaughter, Amanda Knell of Melbourne, Fla; three grandsons, William D. Pond (Deana) of Oklahoma City, Joseph M. Knell of Bryan, Texas, and Kenneth Kirkland of Houston; great-granddaughters, Grace and Ava Pond of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Joyce Pemberton of Clovis, Anna Andrews of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Linda Perez of Espanola, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are his grandsons.
Burial will be at Lawnhaven Memorial Park in San Angelo, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (CST) today at Johnson’s Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas.
