Cornelius P. Post was born on 15 May 1809 in Kingston, Ulster County, New York, a son of Abraham Post and Phoebe Le Roy; he married Maria Kinney in 1829 in New York State; he was listed in the 1895 Minnesota State census as living with his daughter Hannete and son-in-law, John W. Hagerty; he died on March 9, 1896 in Chatfield, Fillmore County, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria; her death date, death place and burial site is unknown.

OBITUARY: Capt. C. P. Post, one of the very oldest settlers of Fillmore County, (Minnesota), died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Hagerty in this city (Chatfield). Mr. Post was born in Kingston, Ulster County, N.Y. on 15 May 1809, (baptized on 31 July 1809 in Kingston, He was a son of Abraham Post and Phoebe Le Roy; in 1829 he married to Miss Maria Kinney. In 1839 the worthy couple while living in Allegheny, New York, lost their home and three children by fire. The western fever caught them in the 1850's and they located in Chatfield in 1859. Five children survive them: two sons, residents of South Dakota and Nebraska; and three daughters, Mesdames Mrs. John Hagerty of Chatfield, Mrs. Hiram Winslow and Mrs. Enoch Winslow of Fountain, Minn. Their 5 known children are:

2- James Ross Post
3- Lorinda Louise (Post) Winslow
4- Richard K. Post
5- Orilla "Nellie" Josephine (Post) Winslow
