George Lee Bird was the son of George Marshall & Martha S. Clark Bird. He married Elsie Rhodes, who was the sister of his brother Claude's wife, Pearl, on September 24, 1903 (license date), in Madison County, Alabama. Elsie was the daughter of John and Susan Berryhill Rhodes.

Lee and "Ebb", as she was commonly known, had nine children - Maudie (Jones), Selena "Lena" (Pinkerton), Betty (McPhearson/ Vaughn), Elsie Mae (Bohanan), George Lee Jr.,Rosie M. (Cothren), Claude Joseph, Carl, and Frances Leona (Burke), who was born a few months following her father's death.

Lee died from influenza on January 24, 1921. He was a member of the Free Holiness Church.
