Robert H. O'Connell, 80, of Eau Claire and formally of New Auburn passed away Monday, December 16, 2002 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. He was born on December 15, 1922 in the Township of Bloomer to Alfred and Eva (McKay) O'Connell. He graduated from New Auburn High School in 1942. He farmed in the Township of Bloomer at the Century Farm (built by his father and grandfather); he married Rosemary Schneider on July 4, 1949, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Eau Claire. After her death in 1984, he married Arlene Saheim on June 2, 1989, at St. Jude's Catholic Church in New Auburn. He worked at the Northern Center in Chippewa Falls for 26 years retiring in 1985.
He was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in New Auburn; the Antique Engine Club; Chippewa Valley Model "A" Club; former past president of the New Auburn Lions Club and he was a member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribe know as Standing Bear.
He is survived by his wife Arlene O'Connell of Ear Claire; sons, Michael (Joyce) O'Connell of Chippewa Falls, Daniel (Sandy) O'Connell of Bloomer and Joseph O'Connell of New Auburn; daughters, Collene (James) Spaeth of Chippewa Falls, Patricia (Anthony) Paulson of Chippewa Falls; stepson, Randy (Roxie) Saheim of Eau Claire; step daughter, Sandy Place of Eau Claire; he is also survived by 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren and 10 step great grandchildren.
His parents; 1st wife Rosemary; daughter, Jeanne Rasmusson; grandson, Michael Rasmusson; one brother and one sister precede him in death, in infancy. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 19, 2002 at St. Jude's Catholic Church, New Auburn with Father Norman Boneck officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul's North Catholic Cemetery, Bloomer. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at the Schriver Funeral Chapel, Bloomer and one hour before the Mass at the church on Thursday. There will be at 7:00 p.m. Rosary followed by a Christian Wake Service at the Funeral Chapel on Wednesday.
