Deceased Name: Mabel Bertina Williams
Mabel Bertina Williams, 87, of Cloquet, Minn., died Sunday, May 17, 2009, in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, Minn. She was born July 5, 1921, in New Prairie Township, Minn., to Christ and Sina Velde. She grew up in Cyrus, Minn. On July 30, 1943, Mabel married Donald Williams in California. They returned to Minnesota in 1970 and made their home in Duluth. In 1975 they moved to Saginaw. After her husband's death, Mabel moved to Cloquet. Mabel was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Women of the Moose, Eagles and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mabel enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, doing needle work, playing bingo and playing cards with family and friends.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, in 1975; brothers, Selmer and Leonard Sanvig, and Joseph Velde; and sisters, Clara Ellingboe, Alice Blossom, Ida Halvorson and Cora Williams.
Mabel is survived by two brothers, Art Sanvig of Hudson, Wis., and LeRoy (Yvonne) Sanvig of Deerwood, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 20, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cloquet.
