The obituary of Hays Stamper as published in the August 1, 1963, issue of The Mountain Eagle:

Death takes man, wife of Roxana

Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Hays Stamper, who died within 24 hours of each other, were held Tuesday morning at their residence at Roxana.

Elder I. D. Back and others officiated.

Burial was in the Stamper cemetery at Roxana.

Mr. Stamper, who was 57, died at 11 a.m. Saturday at his home after a long illness. When his body was returned to the home at 10 o'clock Sunday morning, Mrs. Stamper suffered a heart attack. She was rushed to Whitesburg Memorial Hospital but was dead on arrival.

Mrs. Stamper, the former Mary Crase of Blackey, was 55. She was a daughter of William R. and Sally Calahan Crase.

Mr. Stamper, a sawmill operator, was a son of Kelly and Vina Caudill Stamper.

The couple are survived by eight children. They include six sons, Harold Forrester Stamper and Hassell Waldo Stamper, both of Roxana; Harry Stamper and Haywood Stamper, both of Indiana; Herbert Stamper, Hazard, and Donald Reed Stamper, Ohio, and two daughters, Mrs. Ida Mae Whitaker, Tennessee; and Mrs. Vina Faye Fields, Indiana.

Mr. Stamper is survived also by a brother, Hassell Stamper, Whitesburg, and three sisters, Mrs. Herma Fields, Whitesburg; Mrs, Verna Taylor, Cumberland; and Mrs. Mae Fields, Richmond.

Mrs. Stamper is survived also by seven brothers, Ira Crase, Kingscreek; J. B. Crase and Ellis Crase, both of Charlestown, Ind.; Tilford Crase, Otisco, Ind.; Ted Crase, Williamsburg; Henry Crase, Fairborn, Ohio; Isaac Crase, Indiana, and three sisters, Mrs. Laura Amburgey, Roxana; Mrs. Bertha Fields, Kingscreek, and Mrs. Luella Whorte, Jeffersonville, Ind.

Craft Funeral Home had charge of funeral arrangements.
