Thomas Rogers married Hannah Moore March 12, 1811, in Frederick Co., Virginia. They lived at Lebanon, in Warren Co., Ohio for much of the next twenty years, and then moved west to Perry Co., Illinois. Thomas Rogers died there, 1835-1840. Hannah Rogers was enumerated as head of household in Perry Co. in 1840. No marked grave has been identified for Thomas Rogers, Sr., nor has any definitive date of death been determined, apart from the approximate range given above. A search of Perry Co. probate and deed records for that period might supply new information.

Many online profiles have cited Charles Hull’s 1962 DAR application, which asserts that (1) Thomas Rogers was born at Lebanon, Ohio; and that (2) he died in 1862 at Hope, Indiana. The latter is not true (the intention may have been to suggest that he died “before 1862,” which is the year Hannah died, although such is not stated in the application.) The former is highly unlikely, as well. Thomas Rogers was almost certainly born in Virginia, where he married as a young man. (Warren Co. was not established until 1803.) Three of Thomas' children who survived to be enumerated on the 1880 census (Sarah Loucks, Jonathan Rogers, and Thomas Rogers, Jr.) all reported both their parents born in Virginia. Researchers must keep in mind that genealogical resources available in 1962 were far removed from those of half a century later.

Two of Thomas and Hannah Rogers’ children married in Perry Co. These were Hugh Rogers, who married Elizabeth Meacum, Feb. 9, 1841; and Margaret Rogers, who married Major Allen Hull, Sept. 22, 1842. By 1850, Hannah had gone back east to Bartholomew Co., and was residing with another son, Thomas Rogers, Jr. Hugh Rogers is believed to have died in Bartholomew Co., 1847-1850, likely buried at Sharon, although his grave is not marked. Margaret also relocated to Bartholomew Co. with her young family.
