Kate White married 1) Michael Joseph Burke; they had 9 children. After his death, she married 2) James Henry Capen.

Catherine White was likely born in Ireland, but some census records give her birth location as England. Records are also inconsistent on her middle name, which may be Matilda, Teresa, or Ellen. She is most often given the middle initial M on US records and clearly went by the nickname Kate.

Kate White married Michael Joseph Burke in 1864 at St. Mark's Church in Dublin (Church of Ireland). The marriage record lists their fathers' names and occupations. Her father was listed as a shoemaker by the name of Thomas White.
Michael was a school teacher and the family relocated several times between 1865 and 1880, with their children born in five different counties in Ireland: Mayo, Dublin, Cavan, Kildare, and Louth.
In 1882, the family immigrated to the USA. Michael may have come over first, as Catherine came over alone with eight children ages 2-17 aboard the ship the Grecian Monarch, arriving in Dec 1882 in New York.
The family settled in southern Wisconsin, USA. They had a farm near the town of Delavan in Walworth County.
Within six months of arrival, two of the children died of illness in the span of days. These were Michael Joseph Burke, Jr. (age 16) and Samuel Alexander Burke (age 7). A daughter, Katie Burke Chappell, died in 1889 at age 17 of complications from childbirth. A stillborn son, Michael Burke, was born in June 1890. And Catherine's husband, Michael Joseph Burke Sr, died in Jan 1893 of illness.

Kate remarried in June 1893 to a widower, James Capen. He died suddenly of an accident in 1896.

Kate lived with her daughter Anna Burke Swallow for the rest of her life, joining them as they moved from Delavan to Price County, Wisconsin, and then to Janesville in Rock County, where she died in 1923. Kate was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Janesville, although most of her family was buried in Spring Grove Cemetery in Delavan. She appears to have buried her second husband in the plot there that was intended for herself.

Children born to Michael Joseph Burke and Catherine White:
1. Mary Elizabeth "Lillie" Burke (1865-1955) m. William H Marbaker
2. Michael Joseph Burke, Jr (1867-1883), died at age 16
3. Catherine Teresa "Katie" Burke (1869-1889), m. Albert J. Chappell
4. Anna Maria Burke (1872-1930), m. Thomas G Swallow
5. Thomas William Burke (1874-1957), m. 1) Estella Bates, 2) Docia Holmes
6. Samuel Alexander Burke (1876-1883), died at age 6
7. John White Burke (1878-1902), m. Edith Leola Brabazon
8. Margaret Jane Burke (1880-1897), m. Charles Albert Swallow
9. Michael Burke (1890-1890), stillborn infant born in Wisconsin

Of the nine children, five died young: one a stillborn infant, two sons (as noted above), and two daughters who each died from complications of childbirth, both before the age of 20. Another son died at age 24.
Michael and Kate had four grandchildren who lived to adulthood. Only one grandchild had children himself: Joseph Ray Burke, son of Thomas, and his family line continues to present day.
