Potsdam Dec 17 == Military Funeral services will be held here Friday for
Pvt. John Grant Nicolette, 31 years old military policeman who was fatally injured Sunday while on duty at Fort Dix N. J.

Rites will be held at 2 pm at the Nicolette home, 47 Pierpont Avenue, Rev. Howar V Haines pastor of the Potsdam Presbyterian church, officiation. Burial will be at Bayside cemetery.

Members of Frank Barclay post, American Legion, are making arrangements for honorary color guard and for a firing squad to be made up of Clarkson College
R. O. T. C. riflemen.

Private Nicolette died when a truck in which he was riding turned over.

A native of Potsdam, the soldier is survived by his wife the former
Miss Eveyln LaPointe of this village; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Nicholette wo are operating the Hotel Philadelphia in Philadelphia and his sister Miss Ruth Ann Nicolette of Potsdam. A half brother Sylvester Nicolette ,725 Hancock Street Watertown and a half sister Mrs. Wilbert Lane, 114 Francis Street also survived.
Private Nicolette was a polo player when in prep school and an automobile salesman here before he enlisted in January of this year. He spent three months in a military hospital after sustaining a knew injury while on duty several months ago. His was the third Potsdam death reported in arm services this year.

DIES AFTER CRASH AT CAMP DIX

Local Man Driving Army Car Which Skidded on Icy Road and Overturned.
========

Military honors will be accorded PVT. John G Nicolette, who was killed in a motor accident at Camp Dix. N. J. Sunday, at services to be held at the home here at 2 pm today. Bearers will be from the Clarkson College R O T C and firing squad will be present at Bayside where internment will be made. Pvt. Nicolette's body arrived here Wednesday morning.

According to information received by relatives from Camp Dix, Pvt. Nicolette was driving an army car with it skidded and overturned on an icy road. He was pinned under the machine, sustaining fractured ribs and a crushed chest which caused his death in the post hospital shortly afterwards. Of the two other members of the
M P detachment riding with him one was seriously injured.

John Grant Nicolette was born at the family home 47 Pierrepont Ave. Sept 25 1911 son of Sylvester and E. May Nicolette. He was educated in the local schools and graduated from Wenona Military Academy Wenona N J in 1932, where he was active in polo. He attended St Lawrence university for a year in 1935 – 36 and returned to Potsdam where he was a salesman for the St Lawrence Motor Sales Company.

He enlisted in June 1942 and was sent to camp Crofts, S C for basic training. While there he suffered a knee injury and was confined to the hospital for 3 months. He had recently been transferred to Camp Dix and assigned to military police unit. He married in Spartanburg S.C. last September, Miss Evelyn LaPointe daughter of Mrs. Harriet and the late Welby LaPointe of this place.

She survives together with his parents of Philadelphia N Y and a sister
Miss Ruth Ann Nicolette of Potsdam. Surviving also are two nephews
Richard S and George Robert Cambridge, son of deceased sister..
