ELKHART — Richard C. Ong, 89, of Elkhart passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Lexington Medical Center in Columbia, S.C., after complications from a fall on his porch in December.

Richard was employed by Miles Laboratories and Bayer as an accountant in the international division and the consumer products division in Elkhart for 38 years before retiring in 1988.

He was born July 29, 1923, in Indianapolis to Eugene Ong and Elsie (McChesney) Ong.

On Jan. 9, 1943, he married Mary Alice Glace. She passed away April 9, 1995.

Survivors include children Megan (Bryan) Corbridge of Elkhart, David Ong of Nashville, Tenn., the Rev. Stephen (Theresa) Ong of Greeley, Colo., B. Nelson Ong of New Rochelle, N.Y., Page Onge of Nashville and Kevin (Valerie) Ong of Elkhart; sister Jeanne Haddenhorst of St. Louis, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Ong; and sister, Helen Hatchet.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Waterman Westbrook Clouse Funeral Home. Services are at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Grace Bible Church. Dr. Daniel Gelatt and Pastor Mike Fisher will be officiating.

Burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery.

Richard was a dedicated member of Faith Baptist Church of St. Mathews in South Carolina, as well a member of Grace Bible Church in Elkhart. He was also a lifelong golfer. He was a former member of the National Association of Accountants, a life-long member of the John Birch Society, a member of the NRA, and a member of Gideons International and American Legion.

Richard graduated from Elkhart High School in 1941. He then served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. in General MacArthur's eighth army headquarters in World War II from 1942 to 1945 in the Pacific theater, and was stationed in the Phillippines and Yokohama, Japan. Richard attended Indiana University after the war and received his bachelor's degree in accounting in 1947. He also earned a Master of Business Administration at Indiana University in 1948.

Memorials may be given to Grace Bible Church and Faith Baptist Church of St. Mathews, S.C.
