For eleven seasons (1947 to 1958), he played at the center position in the National Hockey League with the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings. Born Dmytro Prystari, he achieved star status while with the Moose Jaw Canucks of the Junior Hockey League. He marked his NHL debut during the 1947-1948 season and played in 54 games with Chicago that year.
