Machel, Samora b. September 29, 1933 d. October 19, 1986 Mozambique President. Machel served as the President of Mozambique from June 25, 1975, until his death on October 19, 1986. Machel was killed on October 19, 1986, along with 33 other people when there plane crashed into the Lebombo Mountains. The crash was thought to be an accident at first, but later proven to be deliberate. He was succeeded as President by Joaquin Chissano. Stairs, William Grant b. July 1, 1863 d. June 9, 1892 Canadian Explorer and Soldier, educated in Canada and Scotland. Second-in-command to Henry Morton Stanley on the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition. Undertook two three-year journeys across Africa, during which he discovered one source of the Nile. Died at Chinde, Mozambique while planning a further journey.
