The son of the late Bart Joseph and Rebecca (Wilcox) Barnhoorn. Born in Canandaigua, Ontario County, New York. Raised in Honeoye (Town of Richmond). Currently employed as a Marketing Administrator for a major production printing equipment company, based in Boca Raton, Florida.

Elected on November 6, 2007, to a seat on the Richmond Town Board as a council member, officially receiving 584 votes in a 5-way race. Re-elected to a second term on November 8, 2011, receiving 755 votes. On November 3, 2015, handily re-elected to a third term, tallying 668 votes and the top vote-getter in a four-person race. On November 5, 2019, re-elected to a fourth term, garnering 835 votes and the top vote-getter in a three-person race.
