I've been involved in genealogy since 1972. I work to be as accurate as possible, but I am human. If you find information which you disagree with, please send me a document or link to a document which proves your information.

Sometimes tombstones are erected years after an individual has died, or by well-meaning relatives who often guess at someone's birth date, so they are not always accurate. If a death certificate conflicts with a tombstone, I will post the date per the death certificate, but I try to note the difference and reason for my date. Also, in the absence of a birth record, I will use a military document over a death record. I feel those are more substantive.

Census records have no substantive value, per se, so they should not be used to substantiate any dispute over dates. That information is given to census takers by any number of people, many of whom have no concrete information, they just guessed at the names and dates. I will never change my information based solely on a census records.

Whatever correction you may feel needs to be made, always be polite. Nothing turns me off more than a rude person.
