Born in a military family, I didn't get to know my extended family until my father, Harold Jesse Riley, retired and moved the family back to the mid Ohio Valley, near Parkersburg WV. He grew up in the country near Eaton's Station, Walker District, Wood County, WV. His grandfathers farm straddled the line between Wood and Wirt counties. He married Mary Helen Rector from Mineral Wells, Wood County, WV. Through them I found myself related to several Wood County families that I took a great deal of pleasure getting to know. It led to an interest in genealogy and the preservation of the history of those families and their connections.
