Richard Dean Shomaker, age 62 of Mound City, Kan. died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Saint Francis Hos-pital, Wichita, Kan.
He was born on Jan. 12, 1948 at Kansas City, Kan., the son of Ellsworth Leroy and Catherine Laverne Skinner Shomaker.
Richard was a veteran serving in the Vietnam War with the United States Army; he retired from the Army with the rank of CW3 Warrants officer.
Richard married Connie Powell on Jan. 29, 1971 in Burlington. He was a member of the VFW at Desoto, Kan., and enjoyed working on antique cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother; Howard Shomaker, two sisters; Glenda Herbst, and Georgette Kluge.
Survivors include his wife Connie of Mound City, Kan., three sons; W.M. (Mark) Shomaker and wife Lacey of Manhattan, Kan., Shawn Shomaker and wife Amy of Overland Park, Kan., and Phillip Shomaker of Leavenworth, Kan., three daughters; Faynett Anderson of Atchison, Kan., Amber Medlen and husband Chris of Leavenworth, Kan., and Ana Shomaker of Leavenworth, Kan., five grand-children, BriAnna Shomkaer, Kiersten Anderson, Daylen Medlen, Alexis Shomker, and Carson Shomaker.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City, Kan.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at the funeral home.
Burial was in Woodland Cemetery at Mound City, Kan.
