I was interested in family history for as long as I can remember, but only got into it very seriously after I left the military in 1982. I got an in-law interested in it when making a joke about her family that she took seriously in about 1972 and she really took off on hers (my wife's), so much of that was done before I actually started work on mine.
Being from "The North Country, NY, I linked into French, Irish an Scottish which makes more of a "spider" web than a "family tree".
