I am an historian, genealogist, and writer. I was born in Blackford County, Indiana, grew up in Pennville, Jay County, Indiana, and currently live in San Mateo, California. My parents are originally from Laclede County, Missouri.

Through my mother's family I am a lifetime member of The Society of Indiana Pioneers, a lineage society whose members have ancestors who lived in Indiana prior to 1840, mine being my ancestors Jacob Macklin and Elizabeth Weist Macklin who settled in Bearcreek Township, Jay County, Indiana.
