Archaeology became a very spiritual practice as well as an objective professional practice for me while at work in New York City's historic African Burial Ground Project, 1991 - 1992. This introduction to other worlds more sacred than the superficial surface of things was followed by work in prehistoric and medieval archaeology in my families' original homeland of Lithuan.
There, I assisted in excavation of prehistoric and 12 - 15th century cemeteries.
I studied the spiritual and cultural dynamics of cemetery practice in graduate school and am a painter, photographer, film maker in Providence, Rhode Island.
