Bio

Live in Kansasville, Wi for the past 22 years. Since about age 10 the 1st article of the once a week newspaper was the obits. As far back as I can remember, going to decoration the 3rd Sunday in May was a day for reading headstones, even people I did not know, trying to remember the dates people were born and died and wondering why or how they died, what kind of life they had and then hearing some explanation from a parent about a questionable grave. I recently visited the Pine Grove cemetary that was hit by the tornado. My mother, dad, brother and many of my mom's Ellis family is buried there.

I really don't have any grave information but close to me there are some small cemetaries that appear to be on private land. There are 2 large cemetaries near me in Burlington, WI.

I learned just today that sometime after 2011 3rd Sunday in May and 2012 the tombstones for my great grandparents are gone! The tombstones were taken from Mt. Moriah cemetary FT Payne Al. My great grandmother was Cherokee Indian. My sister and I are devastated that no one reported this. A check donation is given every year by her for the last 30 years. Why did no one contact her. Why did they not contact the Sheriff Department to report them stolen. My sister will drive 40 miles to the Ft Payne Sheriff and report them as stolen, since the man describing himself as a board member didn't know anything about it. Ironically someone has put foot stones which do not have the same information that was on the stolen head stone. The head stones were pencil shaped. F.M died in 1903 and Sylvie died in 1925 and the headstones have been there since I was a small child. Is there market for these type of headstones particularly a headstone for a documented Cherokee? We are very sad that someone has disrespected a cemetary and desecrated its graves by stealing. I hope no one else has this happen to them. Stealing flowers off of graves is the same thing. If I didn't have money to buy flowers I would just clean off the grave. I would not steal them.

I worked for a local police department for 17 years but was fired this past February then the employer denied my unemployment and it has been lean pickins till the appeal hearing June 20. The Grace of God has carried me through and will continue to do so. I haven't been this poor since the 70's but amazingly I have never been happier. The old adage is so true you can't buy happiness. But the stolen headstones is worse than being fired.

I am looking forward to moving back south to be with my sister and other relatives I have so much fun with.
