Bio

I was born and raised in Ore City, Tx, a community rich with history. It began as Murray League, with the Coppedge side of my ancestors coming from Tennessee, to establish it. My father was Charles C. Coppedge. The family of my Mother, Velia Dodgion Coppedge, settled in Coffeeville and West Texas, for the most part. I have been interested in old cemeteries since my husband John and I took over as the keepers of the grounds of the OLD COFFEEVILLE CEMETERY, just outside Ore City, after my Mother cared for it for years.
My great-grandfather, James Monroe Hamilton, is buried there, so my interest grows as I research his family. In addition to my family connection to this cemetery, my son-in-law's family is also buried there, the Minors (Miners). Find a Grave was an excellent tool to use and I was surprised how many graves I could find, not only locally, but statewide.
There are two Historical Markers at this cemetery, which tell of the Coffeeville beginnings, as well as a Camp site during the civil war, Camp Talley. We hope to preserve the importance of this cemetery site, so that others will learn a little bit of history.
