Bio

My married name is Helen Van Lohuizen, but my maiden name is Helen Kasson. I am a direct descendent of Adam & Jane (Hall) Kasson of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Adam & Jane Kasson and their nine children immigrated from Belfast, Ireland to Voluntown, Connecticut in 1722.

Most of the information I found on the early family members of the Kasson, Dickerman, LeBaron, Robbins, Parkhurst (etc.) family trees came from six old genealogy books: "Genealogy of a Part of the Kasson Family in the United States and Ireland," by George M. Kasson, 1882 (56 pages) ; "Families of Dickerman Ancestry: Descendants of Thomas Dickerman, an Early Settler of Dorchester, Massachusetts" prepared and published by Edward Dwight Dickerman and George Sherwood Dickerman, 1897 (653 pages) ; "John Parkhurst, Born May 2, 1760 at Weston, Massachusetts, His Ancestors and Descendants" prepared by Gabriel H. Parkhurst, 1897 (71 pages) ; "Ambrose Kasson, His Ancestors and Descendants" prepared by Garbriel H. Parkhurst, 1899 (13 pages) and "Descendants of Francis LeBaron of Plymouth, Mass" compiled by Mary LeBaron Esty Stockwell, 1904 (596 pages). "The Parkhurst Family; Descendants of Ephraim Parkhurst of Farmingham, Mass." by Wellington E. Parkhurst (no date - 52 pages). Additional information was added or confirmed thru Ancestry.com, FamilySearch.org and GenealogyBank.com. However, if information differs from what is shown on a tombstone, I went with what was shown on the tombstone, unless the document was written in the individual's own handwriting. In most cases, I believe the tombstone information is more accurate as immediate family members would know their family history better than a distant relative who may have typos in their books.

Note: There are many more family members listed in the large Dickerman, Kasson and LeBaron genealogy books than are listed on findagrave.com as not all individuals have been found or had gravesites recorded in a cemetery. Therefore, if you are looking for info on someone who is not on findagrave.com, check out these books for birth dates & places, marriage dates & places, list of children, children who married into other family trees, dates & places of death, etc. These books also contain lots more information for individuals already on findagrave.com, such as info on occupations, military service, personal family notes, info from old wills, causes of death, old pictures, etc. Both books are available as E-Books or as on-line books over the internet (seach for the titles under Google). They are also set up (E-Book and online) so you can search for a specific name or family tree within each book without having go thru each page of the hefty volumes to find the information. They can also be purchased on Amazon.com.

"Ambrose Kasson, His Ancestors and Descendants" and "John Parkhurst, Born May 2, 1760 at Weston, Massachusetts, His Ancestors and Descendants" can be viewed on-line at the HathiTrust Digital Library web site - www.hathitrust.org - as they are part of the Public Domain. "The Parkhurst Family; Descendants of Ephraim Parkhurst of Farmingham, Mass." can be viewed on-line thru library archives.
