Endless search for answers... Both sides. Douglas and Davidson.
My dad, Cephus Pierce Douglas Jr. "Joe", died in 1970 when I was one year old. I would very much love to know more about his life. Filling in the voids of my imagination with stories he might've wanted me to know would bring peace.
I know very little about my grandmother, Mary Baldwin Douglas. I would love to know stories about her life. I was told she was adopted, but in 2022 I found out that she was/is truly a Baldwin and Not adopted. All of my life I thought there would be no answers about my grandmother's heritage. I'm so glad I was wrong.
I got to know my grandfather, Cephus Pierce Douglas Sr. "Doug", when I was very young. I have fond memories of him. I wish we could have visited more. He remarried shortly before my father died. I keep deleting unkind words about this second wife and the effects she had on our family Right before my dad died and after.
I am very Proud to be a Morgan/Douglas descendant.
My very special Douglas memories come from my Aunt Dorothy, Uncle Jones, Cousins Gail, Marsha, Susan, cousin Murray, and especially Awesome Uncle Sam*!!!
I would love to see ANY old family albums of my grandfather's and grandmother's. Those kinds of things never made it my way. Nothing did, actually. My grandfather's 2nd wife made sure all of everything of My grandmother's and grandfather's stayed with her and her family. The only thing I have are a handful of photos and my grandmother's diploma my cousins were sweet enough to share. I have no family mementos.

Davidson family descendent of---Brigadier General William Lee Davidson.
This is a true story, and I know I have the right WM Davidson
Brig. William Lee Davidson.

Brigadier General William Lee Davidson - my family records state:
He was educated near Charlotte and took the name Lee from "Light Horse Harry". He married Mary Brevard, from a French Huguenot family, Dec 10, 1767. In 1772 he became a Captain in the militia.
Their children were:
George Lee, JOHN ALEXANDER, Ephraim Brevard, and daughters Jean, Pamela and Margaret. They lived in Mecklenberg County, NC. Their last child was William Lee II. born just before his father was killed -Feb 1, 1781. at Cowns Ford, NC while resisting the advances of the British. Davidson county in TN and in NC were named in his honor. Also, Davidson College at Davidson, NC was founded in his name.

JOHN ALEXANDER DAVIDSON , son of Gen William Lee Davidson, married a Cherokee Indian girl in NC and they moved to TN in 1810. He settled by Nail's Creek in Dixon County. He ran a powder mill that later exploded and killed him. Their children were:
Joseph, Travis, WILLIAM (SUGAR BILL), Sally and one other daughter.

WILLIAM (SUGAR BILL) DAVIDSON married Patsy Luther who also came from TN. Patsy Luther-her father was George Luther and her mother-maiden name was Bowden. William and Patty had 8 children.

JOHN MCFARLAND DAVIDSON, Monroe, Lige, Add (son), Jasper Newton, Sarah, Diza and Jim.

JOHN MCFARLAND DAVIDSON was born Dec 25, 1846. He married Diza Donegan--her parents were William Donegan and Maggie Yates. William's father was also named William and was the first Donegan in this country having come from England. Maggie's parents were Johnny Yates and Adeline Crumby.

JONH MCFARLAND and Diza had fourteen children:
William (Bill), John, Kirk, Mattie, Mary, Mandy, Lona, Minna, Hickman and Dickson (twins , so named because the house was on the county line), and HARRY. Three died in infancy.
DIZA DONEGAN DAVIDSON died in 1894. and------

JOHN MCFARLAND DAVIDSON married PARRIE TIDWELL in 1896. They had ten children:
Hattie, Clayton. Diza, Liza, Hyman, Artie, JESSE DAVIDSON, Three died in infancy.
JOHN MCFARLAND died Feb 10, 1942 at the age of 95.

JESSE DAVIDSON married PAULINE WOODY and their children were:
Ted, John, Mary and Melba.
Mary is my mom.

Joseph and Travis settled near the TN River.
Sally married her cousin, Howell Davidson and they had one child, Green Davidson, who was a bachelor living in Dickson County near Burns, TN.
This side of the family records faded away for a reason. I'll found out why, one day. The Cherokee in the family was silent.....

I have found info from other people that state
JOHN ALEXANDER married an Elizabeth Green(1783) and had these children:
Thomas Green, Martha Leminda, John Hinds, Filmer William, Mary Eliza.

JOHN ALEXANDER DAVIDSON---the name of his Cherokee wife is not mentioned in my records, but their children are. Starting from the beginning...

1-George DAVIDSON who left Scotland around 1740 and came to Lancaster PA. In 1748 George and his brother John, with their families, come by Conestoga wagon from PA to NC. 1750, his family consisted of his wife Margaret , sons George, William and Samuel.-
2-His youngest son, WILLIAM LEE DAVIDSON, was born in 1746 and took the name Lee from "Light Horse Harry". William married Mary Brevard. In 1772, he became a captain in the militia. 1776 - William is commissioned a major in the Continental Army. 1781 He is killed during the battle at Cowans Ford.
3-The children of William and Mary were: George Lee, JOHN ALEXANDER DAVIDSON, Ephraim Brevard and daughters Jean, Pamela and Margaret.
4-JOHN ALEXANDER DAVIDSON-he is Brigadier Davidson and Mary Brevard Davidson's Son. This is where the silence comes in....he also married a Cherokee Indian girl. They don't even list her name.
One of JOHN ALEXANDER'S SONS was:
WILLIAM (Sugar Bill) DAVIDSON. He married Patsy Luther. William and Patsy had 8 children:
*JOHN MCFARLAND, Monroe, Lige(who married a girl named Crow the first time around), Jasper Newton, Sarah, Diza and Jim.
*John McFARLAND, Sugar Bill's son, was born 12-25-1846. He married twice. First to Diza Donegan, who died in 1894. They had 14 children: Bill, John, Kirk, Mattie, Mary, Mandy, Lona, Minna, Hickman and Dickson(twins) and Harry. 3 children died.
++ Then he married PARRIE TIDWELL in 1896 and had 10 Children: Hattie, Clayton, Diza, Liza, Hyman, Artie, JESSE DAVIDSON , (3 died in infancy). Jesse is my grandfather... he's a 1/2 brother to the Hickman and Dickson twins mentioned above and is listed in the memorial on Hickman's page as the Jesse Davidson from SC. His name is spelled Jesse, they have it as Jessie.
I'm searching for any info anyone can add to or correct info I have concerning John Alexander and John McFarland. Searching so deep for those Cherokee relatives that I know are out there.
