My interest in genealogy began in Boston when I was a student in college taking a course called Women in Contemporary Society. My professor said we would get to know ourselves better by finding out who our ancestors are and how they lived. The final class assignment was to write a report on our family history. After I began interviewing relatives starting with my grandparents, I continued searching for my ancestors. Part of this assignment was to conduct weekly interviews with our oldest living relative throughout the semester. I know that it was this experience that helped me to understand more clearly how our culture evolved and truly appreciate pertinent facts that had a dramatic impact on our family history.

One of my grandmothers had fascinating stories about her life growing up as a child as well as her family's history. It became a challenge for me to locate extended family members that we had lost touch with over the years. All of these people added interesting stories about their lives contributing to my Final Report. It has become my passion to research and discover stories that bring people to life. I find it intriguing to search for information and discover facts that are pieces of the genealogical puzzle. I also find it very rewarding to help people find their long-lost family members, so I decided to sign up as a Find-a-Grave volunteer to locate burial plots, take photographs, and verify vital records.

Working on my Family Tree has ignited my passion as a genealogist; however, I didn't know that it would also become a life-time project!
