Charlene has deep roots in Riley County as a descendant of some of the first settlers to this area in the Territorial Days. She was born and raised in Manhattan, Kansas along with her siblings; also, her parents and three grandparents were born and grow up in the Manhattan area. Many of her descendants from her Kimble, Shroyer, Johnson, and Lundberg families lived in Manhattan.
Her lifelong learning continues with genealogy research and attending arts & humanities programs in the area. She serves as Vice President of Riley County Genealogical Society. Charlene is a member of the Polly Ogden Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolutions and a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists.
