It all started innocently enough, as I was preparing for a trip to Norway in 2012. I was curious about where my various Norwegian relatives came from. This led to wondering about their lives in America, and the next thing I knew, I was sucked into the genealogy vortex - madly downloading census records, maps and patents, and cruising genealogy forums, old newspapers, and historical society publications. I've gotten some great info from my mom and other relatives in the way of personal recollections, pictures and other documents that have survived the years. I find it fascinating to connect the dots and to see my own family in the various chapters of American history - immigrants and the westward expansion, the Big Wars, Prohibition, the Depression, WPA, etc. I hope to someday have things organized to the point where I can share what I've learned with other family members, but it in the meantime, I just keep digging, digging, digging....
