Bio

I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. I began this journey in the 1990's while in the military. As it turned out, one of my aunts and my grandmother, who both lived in Florida, had been researching the family for years. My aunt sent me off some rough information on paper and, for years, I didn't know what to do with it and it sat. Meanwhile, I was visiting places near where possible family members from the 1700's lay buried without known about it in Hershey, PA.

Years later, I ended up stationed in Utah. I visited one of the satellite genealogy libraries in the Ogden area but never made it down to the big library. I was always too busy doing other stuff even though I always wanted to go. Part of the problem, though, was I still didn't know what I was doing.

In 2009, I bought the 2008 version of Family Tree Maker which included a free trial (for 3 months I believe) with Ancestry.com. I spent a lot of time that winter, holed up in my office, doing tons of research. I, unfortunately, still didn't really know what I was doing and was clicking on every little leaf I could find and adding the information provided, willy-nilly, without concern for the accuracy of the information. It didn't take long for me to get incredibly confused with all of the information.

As a blessing in disguise, I lost my hard drive and all of my "research," if you want to call it that. I don't think I had ever published what I had so I was left to rebuild the information from scratch. It took me a while to get back into it. Now, I am rebuilding all of my information and trying to research, as much as possible, what I find and where I find it.

I am researching these locations in the U.S.: Warren County and surrounding counties, Kentucky; North and South Carolina; Virginia; Maryland; Pennsylvania; and wherever else the information takes me.

Overseas, I am currently researching: Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England, but I have found ties to Holland, and Sweden, recently. These will, of course, change some as I find more information leading me to other locations.

The predominant names that I am researching are: Johnson, Romines, Sledge, Hays, Mannen, Weaver, Willoughby, Hall, Kirby, Goodrum, Garner, Hines, Jackson, Cheatwood, Lorton, Davis, Kelly, Jones, and all iterations of these names, just to name a few. My Romines line has been researched considerably by one of my great uncles and a book was written on it but only 10 copies were made and no one in the family seems to be able to find their copy.
