The Vernon & District Family History Society (VDFHS) was formed in 1982 to serve as a focus for persons in the community interested in genealogy.

VDFHS began the Monument Inscription Project in 1984 by assisting the Friends of History in transcribing the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Vernon. The project was completed and reproduced in book form in 1988. Since then, the Family History Society has periodically updated the information.

Society members have catalogued many of the monument inscriptions and taken photographs of the markers for cemeteries in our region.

Our regional coverage includes all or part of the following regional districts in British Columbia:
Central Kootenay
Central Okanagan
Columbia-Shuswap
North Okanagan
Thompson-Nicola
