Bio

I was born in Moweaqua, Illinois in 1941. Parents were John William Sims and Ruth Ann Rammel-Sims.

My wife of 52 years, Marguerite Marie Kulhavy-Sims, and I so far have 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 2 great Grandchildren.

I have lived in Sioux Falls, SD since 1977. I have been retired since 1996.

My mother started family research many years ago. She began to lose her sight about 1985. And of course, she didn't have the technology available today. So, her efforts came to a halt.

After her death the material sat for some time. Then a little over a year ago I became interested and have spent many hours on family research since then.

I know of about 12 bloodline ancestors who were patriots from the Revolutionary War. I am a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution with 3 of the ancestors and may do more as time permits.

I also am a descendant of Richard Warren, who came over on the Mayflower in 1620.

I have ancestors from almost every country in Europe and a few other countries. The first ones came to American in the early 1600s

The battle of Antietam during the Civil War was fought on my ancestors farmland. There is still a private cemetery in the Antietam National Park called the "Mumma Cemetery" (my ancestors name was Mumma).
