Bio

Greetings All,

I am just beginning some research on my Mom’s Pitman/Raymer/Bilbrey branches and appreciate all the submissions here at Find A Grave (FAG) My Mom passed away a few years ago but she sure loved researching genealogy! She especially loved when the past caught up with the present and family lines intersected in previous decades and centuries!!

While I am mostly looking for info on the Pitman line here are some of the results of my parent’s research for my Dad’s Swain family line.

NANTUCKET connection:

Richard Swain m. Elizabeth
John Swain m. Mary Wyer (also found spellings for Weare)
Joseph Swain m. Mary Sibley
Caleb Swain m. Margaret Paddock
Nathaniel Swain m. Bethiah Macy

Elihu Swain m. Sarah Mills left Nantucket for NC, TN, IN.

Ira Swain m. Phebe Macy (also spelled Phoebe)Ira was born in Jefferson County, Tennessee, settled in Modoc,IN.

Albert Swain m. Melissa Burris (also spelled Burroughs)traveled to Neosho County, KS, back to Modoc, IN.

Carl Swain m. Bessie Ross IN.

Frank(Galen) Swain m. Matilda Fallon IN, OH.

James Carl Swain m. Carol Pitman OH, MI, MA, MI.

Colleen Swain m. Ernest Palmer MI, MA, MI, OH, MI.

This is documented through several methods, but please remember the liklihood of human error (including my own).

I have the following books:

Nantucket Odyssey by Emil Guba

In The Heart of The Sea (Fiction?) by Nathaniel Philbrick

Economy Times-past, present, and future by Lois Beard Lennox (This is a Sesquecentennial book documenting The Settling of Economy, IN which is located in Wayne/Washington Counties). Elihu Swain and others from Nantucket and Eastern TN were part of settling it in 1815. There is much mention of Elihu's involvement with Abolution. His daughter Hannah married well known minister in the Society of Friends and Abolutionist, Charles Osborn.

The World Book of Swains

The Swains In America: From 1790 To 1998

Possible access to Elihu's Family Bible

If anyone has information on any of my ancestors, I would welcome what you have to offer. Any leads are worth researching.

Let me know if I can be of any assistance to you as well,

Colleen (Swain) Palmer
