Bio

Walt, known as Bobby, was born in Mesena, GA, and reared in Stevenson, AL, where he attended school. After graduation in 1950 he enlisted in the USAF and served 28 years in various assignments within the US and throughout the world, including Germany, the Pentagon, and SE Asia. He continued his education while in the military, attending Rollins College in Orlando, FL, and community colleges in San Bernardino, CA, and Honolulu, HI. His career in the military was in munitions management. Later, during a 5-year tour at Hickam AFB, HI, he traveled extensively throughout the Pacific Theater of Operations managing munitions storage activities. Following the Hawaiian tour he was assigned to Patrick AFB, FL, where he retired in 1979 as a CMS. Among his decorations are the Meritorious Service Medal and five AF Commendation Medals. After retirement, he and his wife, Jan, moved to Panama City, FL, where he continued his interest in genealogy and pursuit of an ace in golf.
In 1972 Walt, a history buff, became interested in genealogy and began researching the history of his ancestors and related families. This eventually resulted in publication of two family reviews in 2009: "Desc. of Matthew Russell and Related Families of Jackson Co., AL;" and "Walter Alley and Related Families of the TN Valley;" each with subtitle: "A Collection of Genealogies."
