Bio

My name is Kathleen Marie Busk Varas and I am the first born of James Angus Busk and Helen Marie Stover.

I was bitten by the genealogy bug at the age of 10 when our family went to Greenville and Palestine, Ohio, to attend a Wilcox family family reunion with my Grandfather, Philip Alfred Stover, whose mother's name was Alice Elsie Wilcox.

At that time, two adult Wilcox Stover cousins (Adaviere and Genevieve) were driving a genealogy project on the Wilcox family, and Adaviere spent a great deal of time telling us about and showing us cemeteries where our Wilcox and Stover ancestors were buried, along with other pioneer families to the area with surnames Ketring, Kester, and Teaford.

I also visited Washington State a lot as a child and was introduced to many Stover relatives there, as my great great grandfather, Philip Robert Stover, had gone to the Oregon/Washington Territory in the late 1800s, following two of his children and eventually the whole family settled in Washington.

During those family vacations, I met many of my grandfather's and mother's contemporaries and even some cousins from my own generation, who I always wanted to know better, although the distance between Washington and California where my parents lived did not allow for that.

I have done serious genealogy research for more than 20 years after being able to make the time to spend time on it, and have researched many branches of the Wilcox, Stover, Mahaffey, Bullock, Tunstall, Peake, Busk, Burton, Belknap, Angus and a few others. I used my memories as a starting point plus the genealogy work done by a few family members from the Wilcox, Stover, Bailey, Busk, and Burton families to add in my beginning fact base. Things progressed from there.

I have also done work on my father's family branches who primarily came to California from English Speaking Canada, New Hampshire, Vermont, Virigina, and Maryland during the Gold Rush.

Proud to be a part of this magnificent family and happy to be of help to others whenever possible. My email is [email protected].
