As a descendant of the Godwin, Chapman, Norfleet, Holland, and Barrett families of Isle of Wight County, Virginia and the Gunter family of Norfolk, Virginia, I am particularly interested in our Virginia family plots. Most all of my ancestors are interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia and Antioch Christian Church Cemetery and Central Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, both in Windsor, Isle of Wight County, Virginia.

As a descendant of the Boyd family of Barnwell County, South Carolina, I am also interested in our South Carolinian family plots. These ancestors are buried in various cemeteries from South Carolina to Norfolk, Virginia, where I currently reside.

I am also a descendant of the Wroth family of Western Australia and have delved quite deeply into that branch of my ancestry as well.

My ancestry includes such prominent figures as Lady Godiva; The Tudors - Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, and their daughter Queen Elizabeth I (1533-1603); and Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots (1542-1587), a.k.a. Bloody Mary, the daughter of James V of Scotland and Mary of Guise.

Having completed much of the genealogy of direct ancestors, I am now working on my in-laws. They include the Cornelius family of South Norfolk, Virginia and the and Wright family of South Norfolk and Chesapeake, Virginia.

I am so interested in genealogy and photography that I decided to become a contributor for Find A Grave. I have made new friends along the way, and I find it to be quite rewarding to know there are many others out there with whom I have much in common!

Here is an interesting tidbit for locals about the Godwin Courthouse in Suffolk, Virginia: it was named after my 2nd cousin twice removed, Mills E. Godwin Jr., who served as the 60th and 62nd Governor of Virginia after having served as a Member of the Virginia House of Delegates for Nansemond and Suffolk from 1948-52, a Member of the Virginia Senate from the 5th district from 1952-62, and the 28th Lieutenant Governor of Virginia from 1962-66.

My great grandfather (my mother's grandfather), Samuel Ray Barrett, founded S. Ray Barrett Dry Cleaners in 1909, and it is still operating today under the same name although under new owners rather than by my family. The original location was on Colonial Avenue and 22nd Street, not far from its current location on 21st Street and Omohundro Avenue.
