As a former Mayor of Newark, I am especially proud of Newark's strong connections with Poland. It has be a real honour and privilege to have represented Newark as Town Mayor to mark the repatriation of these three presidents in exile.

The Polish war graves area of Newark cemetery is immaculately maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and every effort is made to ensure the final resting places of a large number of Polish servicemen are looked after in testament and tribute to them. Newark has had close links with Poland and the local Polish community, both here in Newark and in Nottinghamshire for many years. Many Poles came to England to help with the war effort and chose to stay on and make this country their home. Newark's place in Poland's heart is buried or cemented in Newark Cemetery at the present day. Polish war memorial commemoration all souls day of remembrance at Newark Cemetery. This annual event is organised by the polish air force association and Newark Town Council. It is held on Sunday in October at 3pm. At commonwealth war graves section of the Newark cemetery. The procession with standards Lighted lanterns on each war graves and wreaths were laid.
