Myrtle "Sonora" Lewis-Mosby

Greetings from the Great Land, Alaska! My husband Andrew and I are born and raised first generation, Alaskans! We have 5 children, 2 grandchildren and are adopting our niece and nephew.

Our families arrived in Alaska prior to Statehood around 1952. My maternal grandfather Albert Sylva, Sr. worked on the Al-Can Highway while in the Army in the 1940's.

I was introduced to keeping family history from my cousin "Sam Owens" (she is called Bobby now) when I was about 7 years old. She would bring her real to real and get oral history from my great aunts at every family gathering and she would often times have notebooks with her that she would take note in. Eventually, she would also record using cassette, home movie and vhs tape recordings. I was hooked!

When she moved away to Colorado, I continued to keep the family history records in bibles, and note books which eventually led to binders of information. Next thing I know, it's the early 80's, I am in my early 20's and a single parent without the time nor resources to support my further research so I enlisted my auntie Ann (Cheryl A. (Sylva) Washington) and since she also loved the idea of tracking down and eventually publishing our findings I handed what I had to that date to her. She was able to follow-up on things better than I because she worked for an airline and had the ability and resources to fly to different locations and gather vital records. We would be so excited when she would find something new and added updated information to the research. However, when she passed in 1997, it was a blow to the whole family. She was so young and it was unexpected. I was devastated.

When it was time to gather her things and disburse them amongst family, my other aunt gathered up all of our hard work and promised that she was storing them for safe keeping and when I am ready to keep them myself she would give them back to me.... After many requests, that has not happened (2021).

So, I had to start over fresh from scratch! I contacted my cousin "Sam" and she sent me what she had left and have been trekking along ever since!

This is my passion. I love to link family members, their memorials, photos and stories to be accessible for all family members 100 years from now! This wonderful platform allows for a basic introduction of direct family connections from parents to child and spouses. If used correctly, your grandchild can use the information for their "Our Family Tree" class assignments in elementary school without having to spend a lot of money for subscriptions!

My intent is to manage as many of my family members accounts as possible and if any of the immediate family members request for the management to be transferred to them, I will be happy to do so!

(Transfer requests should be for direct relatives within five generations. This would be your siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, great-great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. I am usually willing to transfer most family members to you. I would like to know your relationship, no matter how distant, if you would like transfers. Otherwise no transfer.)

If they are just an acquaintance, someone you knew with NO RELATION to you they will not be transferred.

If anyone would like any information added just email me with a note with your name and I will be happy to add it with your name.

Please make sure that your emails say "Find a Grave" in the subject line followed by the memorial ID - Name of the person. Example: "Find a Grave - 12345678 - Jane Doe"

My family line includes: Mosby, Lewis, Sylva, Claiborne, Young, Hickman, Brown, Carroll, Waters, Grandison, Robinson, Robison, Toliver, Ford, Waldron, Randolph, Leslie, Hall, Hodge, Hollman, Flowers, George, Thompson, Mosley, Ransom, Clark, Reed, Murray, Smith, Floyd, Whiting, Greene, Scott, Washington, Carter, Pointer, Thomas, Owens, Hood, Lawson, White, Johnson, Jason, Vincent, Ward, Gracien, Gracin, Joseph, Lainez, Bocage among many others.
