Bio

I was born in Clinton, MO (Henry County) on 3 September 1971 at Wetzel Osteopathic Hospital to Hobert Glenn Kirk and Goldie Sylvia Kirk (nee Terry). When I was 9 months old my family moved back to Marion (Smyth County) southwest Virginia from whence both my parents came. In 1976, my father died as the result of a "massive" cardiac incident after years of struggling with substance-use-disorder and mental health issues. My mother never remarried but spent more than 20 years with the man I call my step-dad, Jack Poston.

I left home at 17 to attend Bluefield College (now Universtiy) in Bluefield, VA and graduate in 1994 before attending graduate school at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) in Richmond, KY.

I worked for 15 years in the personal and commercial insurance sector which took me to Chicago in 2000. I lived there for 10 years before a stint in Orlando, FL. I eventually returned to Chicago but came back to Virginia in 2015 when my sister, Janice, was diagnosed with stage five kidney failure.

As of her death in 2015, I am not the sole remning member of my immediate family.
