Bio

When I was 13 and living in Clarksville, TN, I had to write an English paper about my family heritage. I asked my grandfather to help me write about the Clark family. He spent the better part of a rainy winter Saturday driving me across Trigg and Christian Counties in Kentucky and Stewart County in Tennessee looking for graves of Clark ancestors to get names, births, and deaths. This was way before GPS, county maps were hard to find, and state maps usually didn't include all county roads. So Granddaddy relied on memory to get us where we needed to go. Most interesting of the family plots were my grandfather's grandparents and great grandparents - my great and great great grandparents. These Clarks were born in Sussex County, Virginia, less than 20 miles from where I now live in Newport News, VA. Thanks to Find A Grave I was able to lay eyes on their cemetery and headstones for the first time in nearly 30 years. And now that I have the geocoordinates for the Clark Cemetery in Stewart County, I can use my smart phone or GPS to revisit a site dear to my Grandfather's heart and perhaps one day take my granddaughters Caroline and Lily to see who they came from.
