Visiting and photographing cemeteries has become sort of an addiction to me. My family and I have been researching our family history and have gotten some of the information we need from Grave Markers. We can learn a lot from tombstones. They're very important. In my many trips to cemeteries, I have seen so many stones that were impossible to read or that are falling apart and it is really upsetting. These are people, someone's family. They're someone's Son, Daughter, Mother, Father, Sister, Brother, Niece or Nephew and deserve to be remembered. They went to their final resting place and for many of them, that is the end. They get no visitors, no flowers, no grave upkeep. Some of the stones crumble away to nothing and there is no way to tell who rests there. I feel cemeteries need to keep strict records of who is buried there and where their resting place is. This is not so for all cemeteries. I have seen some that are back in the woods and have cows trampling through them and trees growing up right through the graves or stones. Its is a terrible thing to let this happen. These people deserve respect. Cemeteries need to place another marker on the grave if they see stones that are unreadable or almost to that point. It doesn't need to be fancy or ornate, just something that states " I am--------- and this is my resting place." I hope that by adding the photos that I take, it will help others to find where their loved ones are resting. It is my hope that they will make a trip to visit them and maybe bring some flowers.
