Bio

Hi, My name is Jacob Dancy. I grew up in Memphis, TN. I knew about Rucker Cemetery in Crocket County TN because that is where my grandmother, Ola Mae Dancy is from and where she is buried. She used to own the land the cemetery is on (as well as the surrounding fields). I recently visited in April 2021 and sadly, this cemetery is in great disrepair. It sits in the middle of a private farm field that is heavily plowed, there is no sign saying that there is a cemetery there, there's not much of an access road, and there is no fence separating the fields from the graves. Every time I visit, it looks smaller by several rows of crops. Some of the graves are now only six or seven feet away from the nearest row of crops. It also looks like several of the headstones have had collisions with tractors. Additionally, not only is my grandmother buried here but several generations of her family. My great grand parents(Chester Gunter and Maude (Ivy) Barcroft Gunter), their children (Letus Gunter, Lucile Booth, Marry Sue, and Ola Mae Dancy) are all buried in front of the Gunter tombstone. My great great grandmother (Virginia Rucker Barcroft) and her daughter who is also Maude Ivy Barcroft Gunter's sister (Minnie Barcroft Forsythe) are here as well. My father, Maury Vernon Dancy (Ola Mae Dancy's son) passed away in 2015. I'm looking for any other descendants so that we can save this graveyard before they completely plow it under. I called the county and was shocked to find they did not even know of its existence. I am very grateful for this site because that is what the county used to locate this cemetery.
