Bio
I have been a member of Ancestry for about five years, but only started seriously researching genealogy about a year ago, since I retired. The main source I started with is "The Norton-Lathrop-Tolles-Doty American Ancestry" compiled by my great-grandfather, James "Edward" Norton. I inherited the copy he gave his daughter, Margaret Ellen Norton Chidester, who was my paternal grandmother. Many of my Norton-Tolles relatives have kept documents and photos and have sent family members updates to the "Norton book" over the decades. Also my brother does a lot of researching in local historic newspapers and finds interesting facts that I miss.
My maternal family is all from Germany and Austria, especially the Saxony region, which has made researching this branch more difficult. As a now retired middle school teacher librarian with a certification in social studies, my passion is research and history so this is a perfect fit for me!
