Currently working on fixing and adding any missing plot locations in Mountain View Cemetery (1968309), Vancouver, BC, Canada. If we all follow the suggestions below we will be able spot duplicates much easier and make taking photos a bit simpler.

I had an very frustrating time trying to photograph headstones at MVC because many of the FAG plot locations were entered wrong or edited from the original MVC listed location therefore:

It is important to follow the exact plot listing on the MVC website so the FAG plot SEARCH and SORT features can work properly. This allows you to see who is buried near them. It also allows you to print a list of the area you wish to photograph in perfect order.
For example: you are going to photograph "HORNE2-____" enter under the More Search Options in the Plot field "HORNE2-" and then sort by plot.

NEVER remove an asterisk as they are place holders and are an important part of the plot address. NEVER add a space either!
Please don't edit it just to make it look "Pretty".

Please do not assume that the plot is the same for all names listed on the headstone. Always check the MVC Burial index.

If you are out taking pictures and you are in a known section, but you don't have the full plot address, DO NOT put just the section in the plot location. Put it in the Gravesite Details field. The reason for this is because ANY entry in the plot field makes the computer think there is a plot location. It will not appear on a list that you can create by using the "More Search Options" and selecting "No Plot". Using this method you can then work on it later and searching the Burial Index.

If you wish to have a more descriptive plot location, may I suggest using the Gravesite Details field.

If they are all entered with the same format it makes it easier to match the location to the MVC map when going out to photograph.

Over the last year, I have submitted to other members over 6,000 corrections and/or the addition of a missing plot.

If you need to verify any of my suggested plot edits, please see the MVC website at https://covapp.vancouver.ca/BurialIndex/
If you forget the above website, it is also listed on the FAG homepage for MVC.

Also, any other information listed in the plot field, such as "No marker" etc belongs in the Grave Details field.

Just because there is no photo of the headstone on the website does not mean they have no headstone. All it means is that MVC has not perhaps photographed it yet.

Information like buried with number of people should also not be included in plot location or in grave details. The number of interments can and does change for a plot location over time.

Information like buried with a certain person is also not helpful. The person could no longer be at that location as disinterment's do occur or they get interned in a different location in the same cemetery.

FYI - Just because the death certificate says buried at Mountain View Cemetery does not mean they are still there. Also, plans can change after the death certificate is filled out.

NOTE regarding Baby Girl or Baby Boy:
Please ensure the Boy or Girl part of the name is in the MIDDLE name field. This is so if you search for Baby they will show up in your search list. IF it is a twin please follow same format for baby and in the MIDDLE name put Twin A or B and then Girl or Boy if applicable. This ensures they sort together.
Sadly there are about 11, 900 babies at MVC. All but about 500 records are in the correct format, so I'm working on this too. Jan 2023 got it down to the last 75 or so records!

Thank you to everyone for your hard work!
IF you wish your plots to be verified I am happy to help, just ask.

PS I asked a couple of members to have their plots verified. Here are the comments:

"The verification of memorials I manage at Mountain View between Find a Grave and Mountain View records was very simple. The Torch provided very clear instructions to me and, as a result, we found one duplicate and one incorrect plot location in my 100 records. Thank you The Torch for taking this on!"
