I signed up in June, 2023 to do my part in helping others because I see that others have gathered information and deliver it for public use before me.

My father had worked up a fairly extensive family ancestry. I'm a neophyte but want to stretch out his efforts. I'm interested in military history, Indiana history - especially as relates to Abraham Lincoln, the 19th century German migration, and the seeds of our Church and faith in this neck of the woods.

The special impetus to join was that I have several ancestors who were Indiana infantry soldiers and officers during and immediately after the Civil War. They were young, foreign born, and most certainly still speaking German at home. I'd like to recognize and memorialize the contributions of their brother soldiers and their families at home and in the field.
