Banfield Cemetery, Barry County, Michigan

Family lore has it that the land for this cemetery was donated by William Lane Morford Sr. Family lore has it that the land was donated to the community about the time of his wife Bethtranah's death in 1846, assuring future family members a place for their burials for generations to come. William Lane and his son were possibly the very first ever sextants of the cemetery. To date I have been able to identify 66 descendants of William Lane Morford and their spouses that are buried here. His son William Lane Morford Jr., or II to some, and his family left Barry County moving north and became early pioneer in Emmet County Michigan. He and 36 of his descendants and their spouses are buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in that county.
