Yankee Rebel

The World War II B-24 Liberator Bomber, Yankee Rebel was shot down over St. Lo, France on July 25, 1944. One crew member, T/Sgt William V. Owings was KIA that day. With the exception of my father, Frank Di Giovanni, the rest of crew was captured by the Germans. Frank evaded capture and found his way to American lines. The Missing Air Crew Report lists the members of the crew: 2nd Lt William D. Roe - pilot; 2nd Lt Peter F. Dugnandzic - co-pilot; 2nd Lt Norman N. Wolf - bombardier; T/Sgt John R. Searcy - radio operator; T/Sgt William V. Owings - top turret gunner; S/Sgt Eddie J. Dugas - nose gunner; S/Sgt George S. Abood - waist gunner; S/Sgt Frank Di Giovanni - waist gunner; S/Sgt William M. Hennes - tail turret gunner
