Mary Ellen Phillips was the wife of George Washington Branning. She is buried next to him in the cemetery. Mary Ellen was the daughter of Matthew Henry Phillips and Martha Barnes, both of GA, and the granddaughter of David M. Phillips and Mary Davis. Her great-grandparents, the Rev. Jonathan Davis and Lucy Gibbs, were early settlers of Wilkes County, GA.
