Company C 70th New York Inf.

Company C 70th New York Infantry was primarily recruited in Paw Paw Michigan. At the time of its creation the assigned Michigan regiments were full. These young men in their patriotic enthusiasm, solicited, and were received into the state of New York as Company C. Recruited in Paw Paw and mustered in to service in New York City on June 20-22 of 1861, Company C became part of Daniel Sickle's First Regiment Excelsior Brigade. The Company existed for three years and was honorable discharged on July 1,1864. Those soldiers who enlisted after the original muster were transferred to the 86th New York Infantry to finish their service. This virtual cemetery is an effort to follow the direction of this company after the civil war, and may be a link to who knew each other in various locations in civilian life. My great grandfather was one of them. This is a work in progress. Jan/2016
