John Myers 1808-1852 Edwards Co., IL

This virtual cemetery are all the decedents of John Myers who was the son of Philip Myers who moved from Wood County, VA with his wife Jane Chapman Myers Higgins and settled in Illinois. Philip was an original land grant owner in Edwards County, Illinois. Philip Myers purchased the IL land on 8/25/1830. This land was passed down to John Myers, after his death. Jane Myers remarried to Ransom Bryant Higgins and they had one son, Bryant Higgins. Bryant Higgins would have been John Myers' half brother. John Myers died on a flatboat trip to New Orleans from Cholera. He was buried at the Natchez Cemetery in Natchez, Mississippi. John Myers was married to Christina Hedrick and they had three children: George, Philip, and Jane. After her death he married Emily Nifong Snyder Myers Wilkinson. They had five children: Joseph, Martha, John, Mathias, and Albert. Emily Myers married Anthony Wilkinson after John's death in 1852. Emily's daughter Martha Myers married her step-brother and son of Anthony Wilkinson, Elijah E. Wilkinson. They had one son. Elijah was killed in battle during the Civil War.
