A Virtual Cemetery created by Celi Craig

Murderkill Hundred and Vicinity, Kent, De

Many of my ancestors on my paternal side made their new homes in Murderkill Hundred, Kent County, Delaware. My earliest GF arrived around the same time as 4 or 5 of his brothers - within about a 5 year span in the 1720s to 1730s. Here they all purchased land near each other, married and raised families. Their property was located near the Double Runs Presbyterian Church and burial grounds.According to Scharrf in his History of Delaware, the remains from this cemetery were disinterred prior to the 1880s and reinterred at Barratts Chapel. This I believe was the final resting place of many of my Craig and ancillary family members. The one member who does have a resting place, George Craig may or may not have been a brother. His was one of the earliest deaths and his remains are in what I believe became the Chambers Family Cemetery which can be seen on Find-a-Grave. I do not believe he was a member of the Chambers family but that they were later owners of his property and that a daughter or grandchild later had the stone placed. The George Craige grave marker is pictured in Scharrf's History. Some explanations: For many I have chosen the town of Canterbury as the town closest to their homes. Some were closer to Frederica and Magnolia but I feel Canterbury reflects their original homes fairly closely. I leave this subject to change. Some of the family retained the “e” of Craige and some abandoned it. Specifically the descendants of John, his son Thomas and grandson Seth and his heirs continued with the “e”. Seth and many of his descendants memorials can be found in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennnsylvania. Here I am entering memorials for those who have not been otherwise located. For date of death if the only information I have available is from the probate records, this is what I have used with my apologies. If I enter someone and you believe their is another location please let me know as I am most delighted to have a real resting place. Presently most of my family can be found on ancestry.com. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
